How End Citizens United is Approaching Dark Money in Politics

In 2010 there was a pivotal moment before the Supreme Court. The Supreme Court had to make a decision in their case with Citizens United. As it turns out, the Supreme Court chose incorrectly and the political world and political landscape has been suffering ever since. The Citizens United Supreme Court decision was basically an argument for fewer restriction son campaign funding. This decision ended up being the catalyst for a surge in dark money that has perpetually tainted just about every politician in the highest levels of the United States government. The decision also fueled the rise of a political action committee named End Citizens United.

The End Citizens United PAC was created by Tiffany Muller in order to energize progressives and moderates who understand that dark money in politics is untenable. Not only is dark money fundamentally poisoning our democracy, it is also giving politicians the ability to completely ignore their constituents. When a politician is given a million bucks by a rich corporation, why would they care what the actual people of their state think? This is particularly true of politicians on the right wing of the political spectrum, all of whom have come out against ending Citizens United.

End Citizens United has experienced a surge in activity and donations ever since the election of Donald Trump. People are more focused than ever on making sure that their voices are heard so that they can stop a person like Donald Trump from ever getting elected again. This energy has translated to massive fundraising boosts in the 2017 fiscal fundraising season. End Citizens United has already garnered more than $4 million in donations and that puts them ahead enough to easily outpace their 2016 projections. This boost in activity is absolutely essential with the 2018 Congressional Race around the corner.

The team at End Citizens United is fighting to get rid of big money in politics at every level of the political game: local, state and federal. However, creating change at the federal level could prove to be a completely uphill battle. The issue of money in politics is a shocking and disgusting partisan topic. The left is focused, for the most part, on getting rid of dark money. The right wing, emboldened perhaps by the spending of the billionaire Koch Brothers, are clutching to the idea in order to continue to reel in those massive paychecks. Something has got to give.

End Citizens United has gotten around to endorsing Democratic senators in order to help get them in position to undue some damage that Citizens United has caused. Among those senators is Senator Michael Bennet and Senator Russ Feingold, both of whom could be difference makers at the federal level.

Larkin & Lacey Frontera Fund

Co-founded by Michael Lacey and Jim Larkin, the Larkin & Lacey Frontera Fund helps a number of organizations whose efforts affect Americans everywhere, especially for those organizations located in the state of Arizona. The pair are also the founders of Phoenix New Times and Village Voice Media, which is a media outlet they were working for the night they were both arrested in their homes by the Sheriff of Maricopa at the time by the name of Joe Arpaio.

Arpaio had taken the pair into custody after the journalists posted an article detailing the grand jury proceedings seeking journalist’s notes on the Maricopa County Sheriff. It was this event that sparked the start of the Frontera Fund.

Once Larkin and Lacey sued the county for the wrongful incarceration, they received a settlement in the amount of $3.75 million, which they then used to create a fund in support of causes that they both held dear to their heart and have spent their careers in support of. Learn more about Michael Lacey: http://www.laceyandlarkinfronterafund.org/about-lacey-larkin-frontera-fund/michael-lacey/ and http://www.bizjournals.com/phoenix/potmsearch/detail/submission/6427818/Michael_Lacey

The Larkin & Lacey Frontera Fund has been put into place to support organizations for causes such as civil, human, and immigration rights. If you were to take a peek at their website, you would see that there is a high concentration on migrants, minorities, and organizations that help low income families.

The Frontera Fund follows all the most recent news events and happenings with those organizations that they are in support of. This includes some notable organizations located in Arizona, such as the Arizona DREAM Act Coalition, which has been in the news quite a bit as of late.

The “Dreamers” are what the members are referred to and it’s the very first organization of its kind to be run by young adult immigrants in Arizona. Those who founded the organization were themselves undocumented students and through the program they’ve helped fight for the rights of immigrants who enter the states for legal work and who seek to achieve a higher education of their own. In recent news, the Arizona DREAMers have come together to stand up against those at the capital who have decided to try and get the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (or DACA) program removed.

At the heart of this decision lies the Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton who, along with a number of other high level officials, have signed a letter to President Trump requesting that he end the DACA Program. This has been requested in light of the president’s decision to turn down the extension of the DACA Program into other states, as well as the Deferred Action for Parents of Americans and Lawful Permanent Residents (or DAPA) Program that was proposed to the courts.

The decision behind turning down such a program came from a number of lawsuits that were filed at the time and the fact that the Supreme Court’s vote came to a tie in the decision to move forward with the program or not. That being said, this is bad news should Trump choose to end this program under the same reasoning.

Now, there is a new phase in the dating app that Whitney Wolfe has brought forward. This is something in addition to online dating that is going to make life even better for women. After all, she believes that it is important for women to not just have dates, but to have friends as well. For one thing, women need to stick together in times of hardship.

Whitney Wolfe has developed the app known as Bumble BFF. As the name of the app suggests, this is for women to get together and make friends. This also makes it easy for women to find people to meet with and hang out with while they talk about their lives. One thing about Bumble BFF is that while it is a lot like social media platforms where people gain friends and followers, the whole point of Bumble BFF is to find people to meet with so that they can get together and talk in person.

While online dating apps are very common, it is rare for a dating app to go above and beyond being a platform for people to meet with the hopes of getting together and actually getting a long term relationship going. Whitney Wolfe has shown herself to be very thoughtful in the type of programs she offers people. One thing that she wants is for women to have something that is going to benefit them for a long time to come. One thing that she has realized is that people are not going to have the support they need when they are by themselves.

Avi Weisfogel’s Dental Sleep Masters is expanding the dentists income

Ever since Avi Weisfogel founded Dental Sleep Masters, an organization dedicated to training dentists in the art of diagnosis and treatment of sleep apnea, the organization has been phenomenally successful. Many of the students have gone on to found their own sleep dentistry practices. Some of these students have even abandoned their traditional dentistry practice altogether, opting instead for a full-time sleep dentistry model.

Dental Sleep Masters is a highly innovative program that teaches dentists a proven paradigm in the treatment of sleep apnea, one of the nation’s most deadly diseases. Prior to the advent of this Dental Sleep Masters treatment protocol, sleep apnea was under-diagnosed by such severe amounts that as many as 95 percent of those who suffer from it did not realize that they had a potentially deadly disease. The consequences for patients who went without treating their sleep apnea were often severe. The disease is strongly correlated with most major causes of death in the United States. Unlike other diseases, sleep apnea is also strongly correlated with non-medical causes of death, two of them major. The first is workplace accidents. Many sufferers of sleep apnea are so exhausted throughout the day that the disease effectively acts as the equivalent of sleep deprivation. It is speculated that many industrial accidents, including those in factories, those involving forklifts and other heavy machinery and construction accidents are the result of people who have suffered sleep deprivation due to sleep apnea.

But the disease is also highly correlated with medical causes of death. These include heart attack, stroke, diabetes, arrhythmias and many other potentially lethal conditions. The disease itself is also directly responsible for a non-negligible number of deaths in it sufferers. The result of even temporary interruption of respiration during sleep can immediately result in a dramatic reduction of circulating blood oxygen levels. This can cause hypoxia or anoxia in the brain, leading to sudden death.

With Dental Sleep Masters, Dr. Avi Weisfogel is making major strides in fighting this insidious killer. He has produced armies of trained dentists, who are now able to go out and fight this disease hand-to-hand, turning their dental practices into safe havens for those patients suffering from this terrible ailment.
